Recycle for the Arts (R4A) is a program of The Green Project that sells quality, donated art materials to art professionals, art educators, and hobbyists. The Green Project may be the only place in town where you can find darkroom equipment side by side with sequined costumes, recycled paint, and roofing materials. Unfortunately,The Green Project recently learned that it could no longer afford to keep our R4A program director, and we will sincerely miss Elizabeth's dedicated work.
But Recycle for The Arts is not closing, and it will remain an integral part of The Green Project! Our R4A department will still be that cozy section in the back for the warehouse that you unexpectedly stumble across. It will remain the treasure hunt that it always was, and we are still dedicated to providing quality art materials to New Orleans artists, young and old. R4A will also continue to accept donations to supply our cooky store front. So if you just so happen to have a kiln that you can't put to good use, give us a ring!
Sharpen those pencils, mix those paints, and get ready for Draw-A-Thon 2009, hosted by Press Street, Recycle for the Arts, and The Green Project. On November 21st (bright and early at 6:30am) Draw-A-Thon will kick of their 24 hour program with free pancakes (and coffee!) and amazing drawing workshops. Workshops welcome folks of all ages and art materials will be provided free of cost.
So make sure you stretch out those fingers (and any other digits you plan on drawing with) and head on over to the The Green Project join Draw-A-Thon 2009.

Congratulations to Karen Kempf (pictured here with her lovely mother, Linda) for receiving a "Promoters of the Arts" award during the Second Annual Bywater Awards Night on November 19, 2008. The award honors those who have made a positive impact on the community since Hurricane Katrina.
Karen led Recycle for the Arts through a very difficult time and has since shifted her focus at The Green Project to leading our weekly environmental education workshops. We know she'll work wonders there, too!
