The ReUse District will be
having it’s official all-day, kick-off on Saturday May 15th. The day
will be filled with workshops, a film screening, live music, and pub crawl– all
centered around reuse! The workshops are for all ages (but I wouldn't invite
the kiddies to the bar…). Check out the schedule below for details. We hope you
all will come out to this great event to show you support for The ReUse
District and how important reuse and recycling is for New Orleans. Check out The ReUse District's facebook page or follow us on Twitter to keep up-to-date with any
additions to this great day!
The ReUse District is a new
collaboration between reuse nonprofits, small businesses, and community
organizations in the 7th Ward, Bywater, Marigny, St. Claude,
and St. Roch neighborhoods. The ReUse District is spearheaded by The Green
Project, Habitat for Humanity Restore, Preservation Resource Center, Rebuilding
Together New Orleans, and St. Claude Main Street. Functioning much like an arts
district, The ReUse District hopes to increase the appreciation of and
accessibility to reused materials in our neighborhoods and all of New Orleans.
Reuse is the most environmentally responsible form of recycling, and while the
city has no formal municipal recycling program, it is still important to
incorporate reuse into daily life. The ReUse District is the first of its kind
in the nation and currently has 21 members. More information about The ReUse
District's mission and members can be found at www.thereusedistrict.org.
